In honor of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib’s birth centenary and Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon was first held on 10th January, 2021. From then onwards it is being held every year.
It is an extensive and significant event to mark the occasion and to promote Dhaka City’s cultural heritage. The race also aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among Bangladesh citizens, as well as to involve the youth in promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon is organized by Bangladesh Army, co-organizers are Army Sports Control Board, Trust Innovation Ltd and Networld Bangladesh Ltd. Technical Partners are Bangladesh Athletic Federation and Bangladesh Olympic Association. This event is certified by Association of International Marathon & Distance Races (AIMS).
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon 2023 is scheduled to be held on January 20th, 2023 at 5:00 AM. The marathon will start from International Convention City Bashundhara and after multiple laps along the 300 feet road it will end at International Convention City Bashundhara. Multiple medical and hydration points will be set up along the route, as well as roaming ambulances and security detail will be there to ensure safety of the runners .
The event will consist of Full Marathon where Elite Athletes from home and abroad will physically participate. The event will also include of Half Marathon.
